Penny Black Where's Dinner man's birthday card

Hi blogging friends From Millan.Net

A special welcome to my newest Followers!  Thank you for taking an interest in my craft.

Today I am sharing a birthday card that I made for my brother-in-law:

The image was stamped onto watercolour paper using Ranger Archival Jet Black ink and coloured with a mix of Tombow pens + Faber-Castell, Lyra and Derwent Inktense watercolour pencils.  I stamped the image again and cut out just the dog bowl/candle and coloured them.  I then popped the dog bowl/candle up on dimensionals to give the image a bit of depth.   I chalked around the image with blue chalk and then added some yellow chalk to add a glow around the candle and added a little to the dog where there would be a bit of glowing candle-light on him.  I also added a little bit of Kindyglitz Crystalina glitter glue to the candle flame to make it sparkle - I can get away with that on a man's card can't I?!

Here is a close-up:

I have no idea who made the dotty background designer paper - it is one-sided and there is no name on it.  If you know, please leave me a comment so I can update my post.  The green designer paper is by My Mind's Eye:  Lil' Robots Gizmo Gears from 2010

The sentiment is a freebie stamp that came with a Quick Cards Made Easy magazine ages ago - "The Wild Ones" clear set designed by Adam Pescott.

The cardstock base and the side panel have had their layers trimmed to 1/8" using my Perfect Layers Tools.

The ribbon was attached in 2 separate elements as it is easier for me to tie the knot on a separate piece so that I can get both the ribbon and knot to to sit flat.  I added Fray Stop to the cut ends to stop them from fraying.

I diecut some stars out of green glitter cardstock using my Memory Box Celestial Bodies die set and Big Shot and glued them around the main panel.  Lastly, I glued on the blue buttons using Glossy Accents.  I sewed some matching thread through them first just to make them look finished:  I don't like 'naked' buttons on my cards - guess I am a little quirky LOL!

Challenges:

I made my card for the following challenges -

Fan-Tastic Tuesday 'Where it's Hip to be Square' - Challenge #25 - Anything Goes

Papertake Weekly - Anything Goes - with the optional extra to make your own flowers (which I obviously didn't do!)

Thanks for stopping by!

Jocelyn

Hi Jocelyn, thanks so much for all your lovely comments. Sorry I haven't been around but real life is just busy, a good busy though. :-) About the quilt blocks, mine a lot more even since I bought a quilters ruler and rotary knife and use lots of pins. Oh, I just love anything doggie related, and this is adorable. Your watercoloring is super and I so enjoy seeing it when so often Copics are used these days. I use them, too, for convenience, but still love to watercolor when I have time at my desk. All your cards are delightful!
