Penny Black: A Bunch of Love Stickeroos bookmark + card

When I went to a Craft Show late last year, I picked up some gorgeous Penny Black Stickeroos which I have had sitting in my stash and then about a month ago, I picked up a copy of the February edition of the UK mag "Quick Cards made easy" at my local newsagent and was totally inspired by Katina Killey's article on using stickers to make cards.   Katina made 10 cards using the Helz Cuppleditch Neighbourwood sticker collection of foxes, mice, owls etc. Wow - they were so gorgeous! Katina has a blog too called "Katina's Cards and Chat" which I discovered last year and I just LOVE Katina's style of cards.   But the cards Katina does for the mag are not on her blog - you will have to get the mag to see them (not that I could see anyway - correct me if I am wrong).   

I am sure that many of you have stickers sitting in your stash unused but too good to throw away just like me - so go and dig them out and have a play!   I decided to make some quick and easy bookmarks (I will just share one now and the others on another post) and then made a matching card - a fun little gift set which you could use for lots of occasions such as birthday, Mother's Day, friendship, etc.  Once I worked out how to make a bookmark (I have never made one before), it was easy peasy to make a couple in one sitting and I just changed things up a bit with each bookmark by using a different border punch and embellies.   The Penny Black stickers are really great quality stickers and I love how the sticker edges just seem to blend into the cardstock. The sticker sheet that I used has around 17 stickers which is great value for only a few dollars.

I love, love, LOVE the designer paper I used on my projects.  It is by Echo Park:  A Country Drive (6 x 6 pad) and the colours on all the pages are right up my alley.  I will have to try and get a few more pads before they become too scarce!

Bookmark:

I lightly chalked underneath the hedgie sticker with green chalk so it looked like a bit of grass/ground and added Kindyglitz Crystalina glitter glue to the flowers. The pink glitter butterfly on the bottom of the bookmark was punched out of pink glitter cardstock using a Martha Stewart Butterfly punch and I added some green glitter cardstock underneath.  I used a 1/4" round hole punch to punch a hole at the top then threaded through some scrap threads from balls of yarn plus some Cotton Candy and Limeade twine.  I love the texture that the funky fibres added to the bookmark.  Finished bookmark size is 165mm long x 65mm wide OR imperial 6-1/2" long x 2-9/16" wide.

Card:

I again coloured the ground underneath the sticker with a bit of green chalk and around the sky with blue chalk (not that you can see it all that well - it is subtle) and stamped on the sentiment then added a Hero Arts pearl heart.  The panel was diecut using Spellbinder Square Nestabilities and my Cuttlebug.  I added Kindyglitz to the hedgie's cheek and all the flower petals.  The pink glitter butterfly was punched using a Carl Butterfly-A punch and pink glitter cardstock - I know it looks dark in the photo but it is really a pale pink that matches the pink cardstock.

I grabbed three pieces of twine - Cotton Candy, Lollipop and Limeade and very patiently plaited them together, tied a knot at each end then tied it around the bottom panel - something a bit different to do with twine but I really like how it looks.  The bottom and main image panel are up on dimensionals.  Finished card size is 120mm or 4-3/4" square.

Stampendous Star Lilies + Nellie Snellen Multiframes and border dies!

Hello Blogging friends!  

I made a Mother's Day card using a fabulous sketch from Taylor Von Bruggen of Taylored Expressions (USA) from way back on June 11, 2010:  Sketch Challenge #117.  I am a big fan of Taylor's Sketches and a few days ago, downloaded her 2 x Sketch Books which are on the RHS of her Blog listed under the Baker's Dozen Design Team members.  It is a PDF file so you will need Acrobat Reader (free download from the Web) to open it.  I have a folder with Sketches which I love to look through when my mojo has gone missing or I just need some inspiration.  THANKS Taylor!!

Anyway, onto the card.  The stamp is a beautiful NEW stamp by Stampendous called "Star Lily" and was coloured with Derwent Coloursoft and Prismacolor pencils + OMS.  It was really easy to colour as I just coloured the centres of each petal and left the white as highlight.  I added a tiny bit of pink here and there on the leaves and stems which was something I learnt from my Decorative Painting teacher many years ago.  If you add some of your flower colour to leaves, it really "lifts" the whole picture.  I didn't draw on the colour with my pencils: I just used my paper stump that already had the pink colour on it + OMS, and just "smudged" it on.  I lightly coloured around the image with blue chalk.

I decided to add some fun flock to the pollen on the stamens.  At first, I added some glitter, but it didn't look right, so I scraped it off and went with the flock instead.   Here is a close-up piccy:

The rosepink punched border was made with one of my NEW Nellie Snellen border dies - you get 2 in a pack.  Isn't it pretty?!!  You use the same sandwich in your Cuttlebug as for Spellbinder Nesties: A plate, C plate, die, cardstock, B plate.  I added a Scor-Pal line just above the punched border (bit hard to see in the photo).

I ran the designer paper through my Cuttlebug using my Jamara embossing folder just because I LOVE texture - but really any folder of a similar nature would work equally as well.  The ribbon was attached in 2 separate elements, and the bow itself was made with my Bow Easy.

I added the tiny punched hearts which are the leftover punchies from using Arrows border punch (you know how much I love these little hearts LOL!!)

And here is the card inside:

I used the largest of my Nellen Snellen Doily Flower Multiframes to diecut the rosepink cardstock, and the matching plain circle (from the same dieset) to diecut the sentiment circle.  The sentiment is a retired Elzybells stamp.  And those tiny hearts just had to added!

Check out the button!  I used a new product called the Epiphany Button Studio which is for making your own buttons, ie: you buy the matching clear see-through buttons (in my case, I used 20mm buttons) and peel off the film to reveal a sticky side.  You slide your cardstock or designer paper into the Button maker, put the button on top (sticky-side down), then press the top of  the Button maker and it punches your cardstock/dp to the same size as the button, sticks the button to it and punches the centre holes.  Confused?  Well, here is a video from You Tube - I am a visual learner, so found this easier......  I tried to "embed" the video, but couldn't work it out, so I'll just have a link here for now and try to work it out later.  It really is a very easy product to use and great if you need a matching button, but don't have one in your stash.  

And there is even a flower button maker - this is next on my list of "must-haves".  The size is 20mm.

Penny Black : Dancing Chick - Mother's Day thank you

I made this quick and simple little card the other day to give to my SIL & her DH to say "thanks" for having us 'round for Mother's Day lunch.  

It was great catching up with some of my extended family.  As I was dropping into my SIL's home just over a week ago, I wanted to bring this card along but it was foggy at my house - I had hoped it would lift by the time I dropped my DD at school, but it hadn't, so I stood on my decking in the freezing cold fog trying to take a photo of this card!  I bet I must have looked really silly LOL!!  The sun was trying to poke thru so I sort of got a reasonable shot, but anyway, what can you do?!!

The card was super-quick and easy to make. I diecut the card with my Cuttlebug and Spellbinder Scalloped Square Nestabilities using the Tutorial by Bev Rochester (Bev's Blog is: All the things I love) which was posted on the Whiff of Joy Tutorials and Inspirations website.  Been wanting to make one of these cards for ages but didn't know how until I stumbled across it the other day.  

I made the Scor-Pal lines first then embossed the top and bottom panels with my Cuttlebug and small dots folder from the "Just my Type" set.  This cute little image was coloured with Gamsol and Prismacolor pencils - but I watercoloured the grass with Acrylic paints.  I lightly chalked around the image for the sky and added pink and lemon chalks to complement the image.  

I added Kindyglitz Crystalina to all the flowers,  plus fine lemon/pink glitter to all the tiny hearts (the leftover punchies from my Arrows border punch - I use them ALL the time, don't I?!!).  The bow was made with my Bow Easy.

I'm popping this card into the Splitcoaststampers (Clean and Simple) CAS56 Challenge of 'It's hip to be square!"

Flower Pot card using Marianne Design Creatables dies

Hello, and thanks for popping in :)

I have been wanting to make a Flower Pot card for ages, but just never got around to it until a few days ago when my Design Team pack from Fat Cats Card Corner arrived in the mail with (among other things), some Marianne Design Creatables flower dies - which gave me the little push to make this little Flower Pot card.  

There are a few tutorials around the web about how to make a Flower Pot card but the one I used for mine was from Andrea Walford's Blog.  

The flower dies that I used were diecut with my Cuttlebug using the same sandwich as Spellbinder Dies, ie: A-plate, C-plate, die face up, cardstock, B-plate, and they cut easily and beautifully.  Here is a little pic of what the dies look like plus the pieces of cardstock that I diecut.  After diecutting the flowers, I glued the two flower pieces together and ran them thru my Cuttlebug with the Textile embossing folder.  I also embossed the leaves with the same folder.  I glued on the buttons and threaded some embroidery floss/stranded cotton thru the centres and tied a knot

All the flowers have been popped up on 2mm mounts (dimensionals) so that they overhang the pot lip easily.  The leaves have just been glued behind the flowers.

The green cardstock flower pot lip is a separate piece which was popped up on 1mm mounts (dimensionals).  The punched border was made with my Martha Stewart Pinking Scallop edge punch which was also part of my DT pack.  Really pretty isn't it?!

The sentiment panel just pulls up out of the pot.  Easy peasy!  The ribbon was attached in 2 separate elements and I made the bow with my Bow Easy.  Now that I've made one, I will make a few to have on hand because you can use them for any occasion.

Elzybells Challenge #41 - Single Layer Card

Hello and welcome to my little world!

 

ETA:  I just learned that this card won the Elzybells Challenge - woo hoo.  Thanks Elizabeth - I'm over the moon!!

Over at the Elzybells Blog, Elizabeth is running her fortnightly challenge and this time the Challenge (#41) is:  a single layer card - you can embellish as much as you like, but no layers.  I whipped up this simple card this morning and it was super-quick to make.  I think it could be used for any sort of occasion: birthday, friendship, thank-you, or even Mother's Day.  

First I measured the width of my embossing folder and put a pencil mark on my cardstock so I could make the scoring lines with my Martha Stewart Scoring Board before I did the dry embossing.  That way I could line up the embossing folder so it would be straight.  I did actually try it the other way round first, but I ended up with crooked lines so I used the card as a frisbee instead!   Trust me - the 2nd way is so much easier, and you can always re-score the lines if they get slightly mushed in the Cuttlebug folder.

The embossing folder is from a Cuttlebug set called: "Just my Type".   I really like these narrow folders - they are really useful.   I lightly chalked the embossing with purple, lemon and green chalks to match the colours in the image.

The image was coloured with Gamsol and Prismacolor pencils, then I lightly coloured around the inside of the box with blue chalk.  I was in a glittery-mood, so I added some very fine glitter to the tulips as well as on the yellow dots on the vase.  I used my Zig Platinum Pigment Pen to draw a faint grey line around the image to try and give it a little depth.

Lastly, I added the pearls although they look more pink in the photo than in IRL - trust me: they really are purple!  It would be fun to make a little set of these cards using the Spring Cubes set as a gift for someone maybe for Mother's Day or a Birthday.  I'll add this little idea to my list of things to do!  Sorry it's not a fantastic photo - the weather was so cloudy and dull here today which made photography rather difficult.

I am also popping this card into the Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple Challenge of CAS56 - "It's Hip to be Square".   The great thing about Splitcoaster Challenges is that you can play anytime - there is no time limit - so over the course of time, you get to see a gallery full of lots of different ideas.
