Lavinia Scene Scapes Halloween Card

Hi everyone,

Welcome to my blog!

There is nothing better than bringing together the best independent craft supplies to brew up a spooky Halloween Card!  Take a look at how this one came together:

Challenges

This is my card for the following challenges - click on the underlined link to take you to each challenge:
  • Tic Tac Toe - TTTC#304 - I chose the RHS of the grid - Orange, Square Card and Stamped Silhouette

I used a
Lavinia Scene Scape called Orange Hues so all I needed to do was to stamp the images to create my Halloween scene.  I did trim down the Scene Scape a little so I could add the cardstock borders and have the finished size to be 6 x 6 inches.

All the images were stamped using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink.  I did use my Stampmaster Stamping Platform for all my stamping so that I could repeat stamp if necessary.

The tree on the RHS is by Lavinia - Sacred Tree.  The tree on the LHS is by Lavinia - Tree of Faith.  The Bats and the Bird are also by Lavinia.

The spider, web and sentiment are by Hero Arts - Happy Halloween which was released in 2009.

The owl is from a Hero Arts/Scrapbook.com collaboration from 2019.

I used an Anko 0.1 Black Pigment Pen (originally purchased from KMart Australia) to extend the edges of the spider webs to the tree branches and also to draw in the line of web that the spiders are hanging down from.

I dipped a round paintbrush into the Nocturne Ink to paint in the trunks of both trees.

Once I had stamped my scene, I went around the edges with Nocturne Ink using my Ink Blending Tool fitted with a Domed Pad.  I purchased a bunch of these Tools/Domed Pads from Craftonline (Australia) and are by Universal Crafts and they work brilliantly and stand-up to repeated use without falling apart.

I layered the finished panel onto some Orange Glitter Cardstock then Black Glitter Cardstock.  I bought this glitter cardstock in a multi pack of colours last week from Amazon and it is amazing.  There are 40 sheets and 20 colours for around $18 which is very inexpensive.  It doesn't shed and is excellent quality.  Having the sparkly cardstock really added some atmosphere to my card.

Once I had finished my card front, I glued it to a Cream Card Base using Tombow Mono Multi Glue.

Of course, I needed to add some more sparkle so dotted some glue along the bottom edge using a Uniquely Creative Glue Pen, then sprinkled on some Orange Glitter which is from my stash.  You can see it in this photo:

I added
Uniquely Creative Clear Sparkle Pen to some of the orbs, the spider webs, the owl's eyes and around the edge of the moon - alas, not captured by the camera.

I really, really enjoyed making this card.  There is a certain magic that happens when you sit down with zero rules and pull out various brands of supplies from your stash and just enjoy the process.  Here is the thing about creativity:  it doesn’t come with a non-compete clause.  I’ve learned to curate my craft space based on joy rather than release dates.  Whether a tool or papercraft product is brand new or well & truly retired, if it inspires me to make a card, it belongs on my desk.
While some corners of the crafting world expect you to pledge total allegiance to a single brand - treating other brands like forbidden fruit - the real magic happens when you mix it up.  Limiting your stash to just one company doesn't make you a purist; it just puts your imagination on a leash.
When you break free from the "exclusivity trap," your craft room suddenly feels twice as big.  You aren't crafting to satisfy a corporate checklist or keep up a quota; you’re crafting because you love to create.
The best cardmaking designs don't happen because you followed a corporate script.  They happen when you blend the best tools or products available to you, regardless of who manufactured them or whether they are new or have been in your stash for years.  After all, witchcraft is all about mixing different ingredients into the cauldron to summon your perfect creation - your craft room should be exactly the same.
Finished card size is 6 x 6 inches or 152 x 152mm.
Thanks for visiting my blog today.
