Stampin' Up Butterfly Brilliance Joseph's Coat Birthday Card!

Hi everyone,

Today I am sharing a Birthday Card that I made for my Stampin' Up Demonstrator - Rachel.  I love going to Rachel's monthly classes and always learn something new - plus it takes me out of my comfort zone so stretches me creatively.

Because Rachel is always teaching me something new, I thought that I would try a new technique.  Even though the Joseph's Coat technique isn't new, it is one technique that I have heard of but didn't know how to do so was busy watching You-Tube Tutorials to learn how to do it.  I made a bunch of backgrounds trying out different brands of ink and colour combinations and it was really fun.  And here is my finished card:

What I did learn is that you must be very careful to make sure that your inky background is totally dry before stamping with your Versamark Watermark ink AND that you use your Embossing Buddy so that the ink only sticks to your stamped image.  I forgot the embossing powder a couple of times when experimenting and it tends to spoil the end result.

To make my card, I blended Stampin' Up inks in Soft Sky, Watermelon Wonder and Blackberry Bliss onto white cardstock.  I dried the card very thoroughly with my heat-gun then stamped the Stampin' Up Butterfly Brilliance stamp using Versamark Watermark ink.  This stamp set is retired but one of my all-time favourites.  I poured on some Ranger Superfine Detail Embossing Powder and heat-set it.

Now, this is where the magic begins 😃  Firstly, I made sure that my Versafine Onyx Black was nice and juicy by adding some drops of reinker.  This is the first time I have reinked the stamp pad as the Versafine Ink Pads last a very long time.  I swiped the pad over the butterflies and anywhere where you have heat-embossed, the black ink resists it.  As if by magic, the colours of the butterflies began to 'pop' and they look amazing against the black background.  It really is very simple.  I think the main thing is that you use ink colours that are quite light as any dark inks will just blend into the black background and not look very good.

Once my panel was dry, I layered it onto Stampin' Up Berry Burst then Pretty Peacock cardstock trimming each colour to 1/16" using my We R Memory Keepers Perfect Layers Guides - then onto Stampin' Up Basic Black cardstock with a 1/8" border.

The sentiment is from another retired set called Stampin' Up Simply Sketched which was a Hostess Gift.  I stamped it onto Berry Burst cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat-embossed it using Ranger Superfine Detail Embossing Powder.  I diecut the sentiment using my Big Shot and Lifestyle Nesting Oval dies then popped it up on scraps of Berry Burst cardstock.  I popped the card front onto a Kaisercraft White Card Base.

Lastly, I used Helmar's 450 Adhesive to glue on some Anko Pastel Rhinestones which I bought from KMart (Australia).  The pack is HUGE and I don't think I will run out of rhinestones anytime soon!

Thanks for visiting my blog today.
