Masculine embossing folder stamping
Hi blogging friends
Today I am sharing a couple of masculine cards using the same technique of 'Embossing Folder Stamping' that I have shared on my last couple of blog posts. In my immediate and extended family, we have a ton of birthdays in August and most are masculine - so I was looking for some quick and simple cards that I could make multiples of - and here is my first card:
For my first card, I used a Cuttlebug Distressed Stripes embossing folder and inked the folder with Antique Linen, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Inks then sprayed the folder with water using my Ranger Mini Mister. I made sure that where I wanted to stamp my sentiment that I had more of the lighter coloured ink so the sentiment stood out a little. I lay my kraft cardstock on top and let it sit there for about a minute and pressed down to smoosh the ink around then lifted the cardstock off and let it dry naturally.
I rubbed my embossing buddy over the sentiment area then stamped the sentiment with Pearlescent Chocolate pigment ink and heat-set it using clear embossing powder. I diecut a star from dark brown cardstock and popped it up on a 3mm dimensional then added Glossy Accents to make it all shiny to match the sentiment (bit hard to see in my photo).
Lastly, I added the dark brown cardstock strip and tied on some Darice Hemp cord. I added Fray Stop to the cut ends to stop them from fraying.
Now, here is my 2nd card:
This time I used a Darice Woodgrain embossing folder and used the same inks as my first card. Once my kraft cardstock was dry, I ran it through my Big Shot with the same Woodgrain folder as I wanted the card to have some texture but I was very careful to match up the pattern perfectly by using removable tape to hold the cardstock in place so it didn't move at all.
I stamped the sentiment using Gingerbread chalk ink then diecut it using a die from a set that I originally purchased on Joanna Sheen's (UK) website. There is no brand name on the set and I can't find the set on Joanna's website anymore so I have no clue who makes it. All I remember is that they were very cheap and cut beautifully! I inked around the edges using Gingerbread ink then popped the sentiment panel up on dimensionals.
I wanted the Hemp cord to match the card so rubbed the Gingerbread ink pad over the cord then heat-set it with my heat-gun it to dry the ink thoroughly then tied it on.
I am sure that you could use these cards for Father's Day as well (which we celebrate in September in Australia) or simply change the sentiment for a Get Well card. I have made about 6 of them so I have a nice little pile of cards for my stash which makes me uber-happy ----> see: this is me
Challenges -
I made my cards for the following challenges -
Papertake Weekly Challenge - For the Boys - anything male
Cute Card Thursday - Challenge #325 - So Macho - any male themed cards/projects
Splitcoaststampers - Clean and Simple Challenge CAS275 - Quick and Stackable - cards that you can make multiples of
Splitcoaststampers - Technique Lover's Challenge TLC482 - To Emboss or to Stamp - which is specifically for Embossed Folder Stamping
Thanks for stopping by! It's mid-afternoon on Friday here in Australia so I am really happy that it's almost the weekend. I haven't been well this week so I'm looking forward to relaxing and having some time-out.

Penny Black Love Nip - Valentine's Day card
Hi blogging friends
Today I am sharing a Valentine's Day card. It is AGES since I used the Magic Coloured Pencil/Gamsol Magic technique to colour an image, ie: Odourless Mineral Spirits with Prismacolor/Derwent Coloursoft pencils and paper stumps, having mainly used Watercolour Pencils in recent times. I felt so rusty as it is a completely different technique to watercolouring and I struggled at first but got there in the end. Glad I started with a simple image such as the one I used on my card!
I love this little cat - he makes me smile when I look at him - but I probably say that about all my Penny Black Margaret Sherry stamps! I never get tired of them and they don't seem to go out of style. I am still using Penny Black stamps that are 10 years old! I recently had a clear out of my stamps - some look so dated and I am not sure whether I should try and sell them on EBay or just donate them to charity. There's nothing wrong with them - I just wonder if it would be worth all the effort with the photographing, writing a blurb, paying to list them, then IF they sell, having to post them: I feel tired thinking about it - and I am tired with the ongoing care of my loved one. Anyone have any advice? Is it better to sell them as one lot? I haven't sold anything on EBay before - only bought things. Anyway, onto my card...........
I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto white cardstock and coloured it as per above, then lightly chalked around the cat with blue chalk for the sky and brown + grey chalk for the ground. I added some Kindyglitz Crystalina glitter glue to the hearts and the envelope. The image looks a little washed out in the photo. My camera never likes to photograph anything with pink - it just can't seem to cope with that colour and always washes out my image. Cameras can be so frustrating sometimes!
All the layers on the card are designer papers from my Basic Grey 12" x 12" Kissing Booth collection. I would usually use matching cardstock but as my set of Kissing Booth papers has quite a number of plain colours in it, I thought I would use them instead - and of course, they match the floral papers perfectly making the whole process a bit quicker.
The fancy diecut circle is a Nellie Snellen die - so pretty. JUST A LITTLE TIP: This main panel is up on dimensionals because when I had it flat on the floral background, it all but disappeared into the background designer paper, so by popping it up a bit, it stood out from the background and looked 100 times better. I was actually quite surprised at the difference it made, so if a similar thing happens to you, try popping your image up.
The sentiment is from my Wendy Irving Expressions set - one of the most useful sentiment sets I have ever purchased and had for a few years now. I punched a tiny heart from the pink designer paper using my Arrows border punch (the leftover punchies look like tiny hearts) and glued it next to the sentiment.
The ribbon on the side panel was attached in 2 separate elements and I added Fray Stop to the ribbon ends to stop them from fraying.
Lastly, I added 3 heart gems to the bottom right-hand corner. These gems came on a small sheet of bling from Target (Australia) which is meant for decorating your mobile phone or i-Pod, but I use the gems for cardmaking instead as the sheets have quite an assortment of different shaped rhinestones and pearls. I have seen them at Woolworths/Safeway as well and they cost about $2 - $3.

Bunny Zoe's Crafts monthly challenge - Anything Goes

Penny Black: Imagine - girl's birthday card
Hi blogging friends
Just wanted to say thank you for all your sweet comments and support following my last post re my sick family member - I really appreciate them It's going to be a long road to recovery - most of this year - but we are just taking a day at a time and getting through it with whatever challenges arise and not thinking too much about tomorrow.
I thought I would share a card that I finally finished today. It just seemed to take ages to figure out if I needed a sentiment and if so, where should I put it? Sometimes it takes me longer to "finish" off a card than all the rest of it (hope that makes sense!) especially when my mind has been filled with a truckload of medical information. Gosh, it feels so good to post a card and think about something non-medical :-)) ....and here it is:
I coloured the CUTE little Penny Black teddy with watercolour pencils and added lots of glitter to the balloon and the wings on the bees. I paper-pieced teddy's bow tie then punched some tiny hearts with my Arrows border punch (they are the leftover punchies which look like tiny hearts) and added them around the balloon and glittered them too. I chalked around the image with Kaisercolour blue chalk. Can't you just imagine teddy saying "Wheeeeeee!!" as he flies across the sky? Doesn't he look just so happy?!
Here is a little close-up of teddy - the glitter on the balloon doesn't look as gaudy in real life - just the camera angle captured it that way:
And here is an extra-close-up pic so you can see the paper-pieced tie. I should do more paper-piecing - I really love the effect:
I also really love the designer paper - such gorgeous, cheerful colours. It was so hard to cut into it LOL!! I struggled to find a matching ribbon in my stash so dyed some white seam binding with Jo Sonja Textile Medium mixed 50/50 with Aqua + Colony Blue Jo Sonja acrylic paint to get a light teal kind of colour. The Textile Medium changes the paint into fabric paint - very handy!! I attached the ribbon in 2 separate elements and the bow itself was made with my Bow Easy. I sewed the button onto the bow then glued the bow on with fabric glue.
The tag was diecut with my Cuttlebug and one of the Tiny Tags dies. I added the same tiny little hearts as around the balloon and glittered them too. Lastly, I added the lovely pearly brads to the top RHS which were some freebies from Anna's Craft Cupboard that were included with a recent order.
Challenges:
I am entering my card into the following Challenges:
Splitcoaststampers - Free for All Friday - F4A105 - Cards with Character - which is to add a character to your creation such as people, animals etc.
Simon Says Stamp Challenge - Simon says: "Use 3 different papers". My first 2 papers are obvious; the 3rd is the paper-pieced bow tie on teddy - and are all from the same MME paper pad.

Penny Black: Hello Dear - card for one of my dearest friends
I made this card for a dear friend of my mine who is going through a tough time to hopefully bring some happiness into her day and let her know that I am thinking of her.
The image is one of the more recent releases by Penny Black and I love it - but then again, I say that about all my Penny black stamps, don't I LOL?!!
I stamped the image onto watercolour paper and coloured it with Faber Castell watercolour pencils. You can't tell from the photo, but I added some Kindyglitz Crystalina to the centres of the orange flowers. I punched a butterfly and added some tiny gemstones to the body.
I sewed the button onto the sentiment panel then popped the panel up on foam pads. The ribbon was attached in 2 separate elements and the bow itself was made with my trusty Bow Easy. I didn't really want to add anything else to the card because the designer paper (a gorgeous NEW release by Kasiercraft) is rather busy.
This card fits the following Challenge:

Penny Black: It's for you and Nellie Snellen Doily Flower Multiframes
Hi and thanks for visiting my Blog :-)
I couldn't help myself - I had so much fun making my last Circle card, that I made another - except this one I made a top-opening card instead of a side-opening - and of course, it's a Valentine's card! You can see my first circle card on my post HERE along with the instructions of how to make one.
This very sweet and totally adorable puss is another Penny Black stamp (you know how much I LOVE my PB's), except that I didn't ink up the envelope portion of the stamp which is on the far left.
Image copyright Penny Black Stamps |
I coloured the image with OMS and Derwent Coloursoft pencils, then lightly chalked around the image with blue Kaisercolour chalk, then added some pink I-Kandee Pealescent chalk here and there, and on the card that the cat is holding as well as some red Stickles to the hearts.
The lacey white cardstock was diecut with my Cuttlebug and NEW Nellie Snellen Doily Flower Multiframes (which also contain plain matching circle dies) - I used the biggest doily one on my card - and the image was diecut using one of the matching circles. The pink cardstock was diecut using one of my Spellbinder Circle Nesties.
Did you notice the embossed texture on the red and pink cardstock? I ran them both through my Cuttlebug using the Textile embossing folder. I love how it adds some "lacey-ness" to the card to match the Doily Flower diecut.
The bow was made with my Bow Easy to which I glued a heart brad after cutting off the prongs (much easier than poking a hole to thread the prongs through!).
Now here is a photo of the same card, but with slight differences. Can you spot them? No?
Well, I wouldn't expect you to notice, but I ran the white cardstock Flower Lace Doily diecut through my Cuttlebug using the Textile embossing folder instead of the pink cardstock - I just wanted to see what it would look like to have the Lace Doily diecut embossed. The other difference is that I sewed on a red heart to the ribbon - I couldn't find my red heart buttons when I made the first card (you know how us cardmakers lose stuff on our desk LOL.......!). I'm not sure which card version I prefer - I like them both!
And here is a pic of both the card insides. I added some tiny red hearts which are the leftover punchies from using my Arrows Border punch - I added red Stickles to them as well. The first photo inside matches the first card, and the 2nd photo matches the 2nd card:
Challenges:
I am entering this card into the Penny Black at Allsorts January Challenge of "All you need is love" and they want to see your interpretation of that famous Beatles song.
And the Papertake Weekly Challenge where the first challenge of every month from now on will be "Anything Goes" plus an optional "extra" something - and this particular Challenge has the optional extra of "Lace" which can be paper lace or fabric - but you don't have to have Lace if you don't want to.
Thanks again for stopping by! Thankfully, I seem to have sorted out my computer woes which had my computer in a constant state of re-booting after upgrading a program which corrupted - not fun :-( Thank goodness for the 'System Restore' feature in Windows XP!! Takes so much time to "fix" a computer when I would rather be cardmaking!! Hope to see you again soon!

Penny Black: Message from above - a Thank You card
Hello and thanks for popping in :-)
I made this 'Thank you' card for a friend in the USA who has taught me so much about cardmaking and specifically, how to colour using Prismacolor pencils and Odourless Mineral Spirits aka Magic Coloured Pencil.
It is a simple, one-layer card (OLC) which are my favourite type of card to make. The image was coloured (as you would have guessed) with OMS and Prismas plus Derwent Coloursoft pencils, and I added some pink glitter to the flower petals, the bird's tummy (bit hard to see in the photo) and there is lemon glitter around the edge of the letter.
The dry embossing was coloured lightly with pearlescent chalks using pink, lemon and blue, and I added these same colours around the image as well so it all ties in together. They look so pretty IRL as they are shimmery.
The tiny pink hearts next to the sentiment are my all-time favourite little leftover punchies from my Arrows Border punch which I use all the time; I glittered these with Kindyglitz Crystalina.
I am entering this card into the My Time to Craft Challenge #113 of 'Quick and Cute' - where they want you to make something that is quick and easy.
I am also popping this card into the Splitcoaststampers Ways to Use it Challenge WT286 of 'Just One' where you are to stamp on a single sheet of cardstock. There's nothing I love more than just getting back to basics with a card and having no layers.
That's about it for me - hope to see you again soon!

CAS Matchbook Sympathy card using Craft Concepts Budding Vine embossing folder
Hi and welcome to my Blog :-)
Over at Splitcoaststampers, this week's Clean and Simple Challenge CAS91 is 'With Sympathy', so I set to work to make a simple card to have on hand. This card came together so quickly and easily - I love it when that happens!
Recently, when I was at my local Riot Art and Craft shop (Aussie store), I found these blank white Matchbook cards (they are A2 size and come in a pack of 8) and thought they looked nice. Of course, you can make your own. I couldn't find a tutorial on SCS or by Googling it so perhaps it is called something else in the USA (?). Anyway, I think by the extra photo of the opened card, you could see how to make your own plus I added some directions/measurements below. Note that this card already came with the scalloped edge on the LH flap.
I embossed the RH flap of the card with my gorgeous Craft Concepts Budding Vine embossing folder (LOVE this folder!) and the LH flap was embossed with one of the narrow folders from the Cuttlebug 'With Love' set.
The ribbon actually ties around the card, and you slip it off to open the card. I diecut the tag using one of the tags from the Spellbinder Ribbon Tags Trio, then threaded the ribbon thru and tied it at the back of the card. I made a bow with my Bow Easy and glued this to the ribbon but made sure I didn't touch the cardstock in the process otherwise the ribbon/sentiment wouldn't slip off the card - the bow is meant to look like it is around the daisy stems.
I punched two tiny hearts using my EK Success Arrows border punch (the leftover punchies when you use the punch look like tiny hearts) and glued them to each side of the sentiment. Lastly, I added some fine white glitter to these hearts plus the centres of the daisy flowers on the LH panel. This is a really white glitter - it doesn't have the blue/pinky tones that some white glitters have - and I prefer my really white one for Sympathy cards to give an understated look.
Here is a photo of what the card looks like when you slide the ribbon off:
The inside of the card simply says "With Sympathy".
And here is a close-up of the sentiment panel so you can see the tiny white-glittered hearts:
For your info if you were going to make your own Matchbook card from scratch:
* the LH flap is 1-1/2" wide
* the RH flap (which tucks under the LH flap a little) is 4-1/4" wide
* the card bottom (base) is 5-1/2" wide
* the height of the card is 4-1/4"
Take a sheet of cardstock 11-1/4" long (x 4-1/4" wide), and use your Imperial Scor Pal/Scoring Board to score lines at 1-1/2" (which will be the LH flap) and 7" (which will be the RH flap).
Don't forget that if you are going to use a border punch on the LH flap, you would need to add extra width to that flap so that once you have punched your border, the RH flap would still tuck under the LH flap, otherwise it will be too narrow and won't tuck in.
If you need any clarification of the measurements etc, please don't hesitate to EMail me - or leave me a comment and I'll edit this post. My Email address is on the LHS of my Blog - scroll down a little just past the "Hello and welcome to my Blog" and click on the link provided which will open up your EMail program automatically with my address already popped in for you.
Thanks again for stopping by - hope to see you again soon!

Sympathy card using Cuttlebug and Sizzix embossing folders
Hello and welcome :-)
I found myself needing to make a Sympathy card during the past week for a lady whose husband passed away. It's never easy making a Sympathy card and I like to keep things simple.
I corner-punched the cardstock first (if you do it after the embossing, it squashes and marks the embossing - maybe that's a 'no-brainer' but I have often done it after, and then wished that I hadn't!!) - then used one of my narrow embossing folders from my Cuttlebug 'With Love' folder set. I added the Scor-pal line so I could butt my Sizzix Textured Impression embossing folder up against the line - that way, I knew the embossing would be straight. I have found that if I do the embossing first, then add the Scor-Pal line afterwards, it is almost always crooked. Even if you squash the Scor-Pal line a little, you can just re-do it.
The ribbon was attached in 2 separate elements and the bow itself was made with my Bow Easy. The sentiment panel is up on 1mm mounts. I only had really wide organza ribbon, but folded it in half and it turned out looking OK - though it was a bit fiddly to hold it folded in half while I was putting it through my Bow Easy!
I added some very fine white glitter to the flower centres as well as the punched hearts on the sentiment panel. It's a really white glitter which I prefer for my Sympathy cards - this glitter is not like Kindyglitz Crystalina which has the pinky-blue hues in it. Adds that bit of "something" but still understated and not over-the-top (well, that is what I hoped to achieve).
I'm popping this card into this week's Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge IC253 where the inspiration for your card comes from the John Lewis Department Stores website. While I was thinking about what to make for this card - and thinking of a bunch of white flowers - I came across an image of beautiful white freesias. As soon as I saw them, I thought of my Cuttlebug 'With love' narrow bunch of flowers folder and my Sizzix Floral Flourishes folder - the stems and unopened buds on the freesias reminded me of this Sizzix folder: hence my combination of the two folders.

Dovecraft: Pepper and Friends - Have a relaxing birthday!!
Hello and thanks for stopping by :-)
Haven't been doing much cardmaking this past week: my DD was off school sick and then my cardmaking mojo went for a bit of a walk, so I have been doing some crocheted flowers plus playing the piano and fiddling around with some music that I wrote. Thankfully, my mojo returned yesterday (Friday) and I started a card for my nephew (just as well - his birthday is next week!!).
The above card is one I made for my SIL's birthday in February and is another Easel card - just can't get enough of them!!
This very sweet putty-tat was designed by Helz Cuppleditch and is from a set called: "Pepper and Friends" - made by Dovecraft. The image was coloured with Gamsol and Prismacolor pencils. I chalked in the sky and ground with my Kaisercolour chalks and added some I-Kandee pink Pearlescent chalk around the image for some colour and soft sparkle. I punched a heart and glued it to the pot then added Kindyglitz Crystalina to this heart as well as the flowers and the kitty's cheeks.
The tiny hearts on the RHS of the pot are the left-over punchies from my EK Success Arrows Border punch - these are glittered as well (of course!!).
The strips of plum pink and brown cardstock on the card front are left-over small scraps about 1/4" wide which I have glued underneath the white cardstock base - it's a good way of using them up. Been saving them from when I use my border punches where you have that little strip left-over - too good to waste!! There is a strip of brown cardstock above the ribbon (bit hard to see in the photo), plum pink & brown cardstock underneath the image, and plum pink cardstock underneath the dots embossing. There is also a Scor-Pal line underneath the ribbon. I love this double-sided ribbon - the opposite side makes a nice contrast to the other - it was made in 2 separate elements and the bow itself was made with my Bow Easy. The sentiment on this section is from my Popcorn the Bear 'Bunches of Love' set.
The top line of hearts where the bottom of the card front sits were punched several times and glued to add a bit of extra-strength and I added dimensionals (mounts) underneath so it holds the card front firmly in place.
The doily lace punched plum pink cardstock has a Scor-Pal line above it & the sentiment on this section is from Wendy Irving Expressions and was stamped with Chalk ink.

Cuttlebug: Jules Jewells - With Heartfelt Sympathy
Hello and 'Happy Monday' - thanks for dropping in :-)
I started a Sympathy card the other day to play the Splitcoaststampers Clean & Simple CAS61 Challenge #61 of "Sentiments" - the only stamping being allowed on our card was a sentiment or a verse - but I ran out of time because I had so many birthday cards which HAD to be done, so finished my Sympathy card a few days ago. I made it to have on hand because I rarely feel like making one when I need to:
Not a whole lot to explain really - it is a very simple card. The dry embossing is my new Cuttlebug folder: Jules Jewells which I really love & I think could be used for almost any occasion. The postman brought me my new Stampin' Up corner punch which I used on all the corners. AT LAST I have a corner punch that cuts cleanly AND easily - it is top quality and wish I had bought one a year ago & not put up with daggy edges that my old 'home brand' one frustratingly made all the time.
The sentiment panel was popped up on 1mm mounts (dimensionals). I punched 2 small hearts and glued them to the sentiment panel and added some very fine .008 white glitter to them just to add a little something "extra" that wasn't over-the-top.
The ribbon was made in 2 separate elements and the bow itself was made with my Bow Easy. I attached the bow with a glue dot.

Crafts Too: Leafy Tree - Sympathy Card #1
Hi everyone - 'Happy Monday' and thanks for stopping by :-)
We learnt of the passing of the brother of a close family friend yesterday, so I had to make several Sympathy Cards to pop in the post today. Since I started doing the Clean and Simple Challenges on Splitcoaststampers (SCS), I have been learning how to do simple and unfussy cards - not that I find it easy - I really have to restrain myself from fussing over my cards. I have put this in the SCS's Gallery: CAS37 Challenge of 'With Sympathy'. I really admire those who can make unfussy cards - the less is more kind-of-thinking.
This card uses the beautiful Crafts Too (UK) 'Leafy Tree' embossing folder - I really love this folder and the best thing is that they fit in the Cuttlebug using the same sandwich as Cuttlebug embossing folders.
There isn't much to explain about the card. I corner-punched the white cardstock layers and the sentiment panel has been popped up on 1mm mounts (dimensionals). I punched 2 hearts with my Carl CP-8 Heart duo punch and added some very fine white glitter to the hearts - you probably can't see the glitter in the photo, but the hearts aren't meant to stand out too much - just wanted to add a little 'extra but not-too-fussy something' to the card to draw your eye to the sentiment panel.
I wrapped the ribbon around the 2nd layer of cardstock, then made a bow with my Bow Easy and attached it to the ribbon with a glue dot.
I'll be back tomorrow with the 2nd Sympathy card I made.
